CLARIFICATION OF SUNDAY TELEGRAPH ARTICLE
The Dogwatch column printed in the country edition of the Sunday Telegraph on August 5, 2007 reported that the NSW National Coursing Association has signed an agreement with the Cessnock and District Agricultural Association to conduct 16 non-TAB dates at the Cessnock greyhound track. The NCA issues the following facts to correct the record – - The NCA has signed a 10-year agreement with the Cessnock Club, however it does not state that 16 non-TAB greyhound meetings will be conducted at the venue by the NCA.
- The Cessnock Club must settle its legal debt, which is believed to be less than $300,000, with GRNSW prior to any application for race dates being made by the NCA.
- Any application for race dates at Cessnock must have the approval of GRNSW. This condition was made clear to the Cessnock Club.
- An independent committee of GRNSW decided not to allocate TAB race dates for Cessnock.
- The Cessnock Club were offered non-TAB race dates by GRNSW, however for their own reasons, they rejected this offer.
The NCA committee look forward to working closely with the Cessnock committee should GRNSW see it in the best interest of the greyhound industry to allocate dates to the venue. For Further Information: NCA General Manager Donna Summers (02) 9646 5711
