The 2007 Nova 96.9 PAWS OF THUNDER has assembled a great field with seven of the eight finalists heralding from Victoria.
Victorian sprinter Leprechaun Pace gained a start in semi-final one by virtue of the scratching of Slater and made full use of the run winning narrowly over Rex The Weapon in a nippy 30.25.
The second run-off went to the very in-form sprinter One Tree Hill in 30.02 for trainer Robert Britton. Fresh off winning the Multicam Black Top One Tree Hill has been in grand form of late and is a live chance in the final despite drawing box eight. Betty’s Angel ran a super second to also qualify for the final at her first run at the Glebe track.
Heat three went to the Jason Thompson conditioned Beyond The Call in a blistering 29.99. The son of Surf Lorian put the writing on the wall with his gallant second in his heat the week prior to go one better on Saturday night as the outsider of the field.
Shanlyn Prince chased tenaciously throughout to just edge out Mandagery Man for a place in the $100,000 to the winner final.
The last semi-final went to Meticulous in the fastest run of the night 29.96. Run’s House chased throughout to also qualify for the final and set up what is sure to be the most memorable Paws of Thunder in its short yet illustrious history.
The night also saw three heats of the Group 2 Pages Equipment Hire Sydney Cup conducted with Miagi set to be a dominant favourite in the final after posting a blistering 42.35 heat win. The young up and coming Miagi will tackle Group 1 winners Flashing Floods and Miss Brook in the Group 2 - $25,000 to the winner Cup.
With the two Group finals set down for decision along with the running of The Daily Telegraph ‘The Collerson’ and Greyhound Recorder Challenge, Wentworth Park is certainly the place to be this Saturday night.
The first race will commence at 7.05pm with plenty of great racing and Entertainment for all ages.
