FIRST STAR SHINES IN YOUNG GUNS
Locally trained First Star caused a major boil over when she scored an all the way victory over her much more fancied rivals in the $15000 to the winner Woy Woy Poultry Young Guns Classic held at The Gardens on Wednesday night.
The Ron Bell trained black bitch was the rank outsider in betting and had few admirers in a race that included boom Queensland puppies Knocka Norris and Size Can Matter. In a race full of hard luck stories First Star began brilliantly from the four alley to set up a nice break over the other Ron Bell finalist Lorna Moira.
Coming to the home corner Ron looked like he had the quinella sewn up with First Star and Lorna Moira leading and interference back in the field hampering some runners. The Marie Burton trained Gold Mambo exploded out of the pack to charge home but First Star continued to fight to hold him off to score by three quarters of a length in 30.11 on a rain affected surface with Lorna Moira a further half a length away in third.
Excited connections thanked their strong supporter base as they received their trophy and rug off Woy Woy Poultry Supplies proprietor Laurie Refalo. Ron was also very animated in his praise of the Gardens and the NCA for the continued work at The Gardens. Local breeder Lorraine Atchison who is having a wonderful run with her greyhounds owns First Star.

Team Bell Racing hopes to continue their fabulous run with both First Star and Lorna Moira likely to head towards the Schweppes National Futurity, a race that First Star is now seeded straight into the heats courtesy of her win in the Young Guns.
