BLACK TOP CARNIVAL APPROACHES

The NSW National Coursing Association is excited to announce the details of the upcoming Sky Channel Black Top Carnival, which commences in September and is highlighted by the $30,000 to the winner Group 2 MULTICAM Routing Systems Black Top (515m).

This years Black Top Carnival will once again produce some outstanding performances and some of the most promising dogs in the Country taking part in the races during the spring period.

The Carnival begins with heats of the prestigious Group 2 Multicam Black Top on Wednesday September 3. The best 64 event has grown in stature over the past couple of years with last year’s event seeing arguably the finest field ever assembled outside a metropolitan track. This year’s event is looking like being even more exciting with Group performers in El Galo along with local flying machine Cindeen Shelby confirmed as likely starters. The Black Top final will be held on Wednesday the 10th of September and with competition from both the Victorians along with the locals the $30,000 to the winner event will definitely be a cracker.

Another highlight of the Carnival is the Group 3 Newcastle Cup for the stayers. Last year the all-conquering Miagi who has taken all before him in an injury-plagued career took out event. This years event will once again carry the winners purse of $15,000 and is sure to see some of the best stayers around take part.

This years Mega Maiden event has undergone a name change and will be now known as the Josh Brown Memorial Mega Maiden. Mick and Gloria Brown will once again sponsor the event through their Peppercorn Farm establishment, which is one of the finest facilities in the Country. The name has been changed in honor of their late son Josh who lost his brave battle with illness earlier in the year.

This years Mega Maiden will have extra significance because for the first time 10 heats of the event will be run on the Gardens TAB Meeting on Friday the 31st of October. All heats will carry graded race prize money with $750 to 1st $190 for 2nd and $100 for 3rd along with $20 for unplaced greyhounds.

The Final will be held on the Friday November 7 will once again carry a winner’s purse of $15,000 with a consolation also being held.

With a number of minor features also programmed this years Black Top Carnival is sure to be the most exciting on record and the NCA would like to encourage all participants to be involved in the Black Top Carnival and we hope that these races are well supported.
